Air fryers are popular these days. However, it can get very hot, and when you place the air fryer on the countertops it can damage it.
To fight this problem you can use a heat-resistant mat or the below alternative to safely use your air fryer.
Let’s get started:
Can I put Air Fryer on the Countertop?
If your kitchen countertop is made of heat-resistant materials, then you don’t have to worry about it. However, if it’s not, you need to use a heat-resistant mat. Heat-resistant countertops include Granite, Aluminum, Copper, Stainless Steel, and Terrazzo.
Can I put my air fryer on a wooden cutting board?
Yes, you can use a wooden cutting board under your air fryer. Wooden cutting boards are non-slippery, heat-proof materials that you can use. Wooden cutting boards can get damaged due excess heat of air fryers.
Can you put an air fryer in a cabinet?
Yes, you can put your air fryer in a cabinet when storing it. But when you’re going to use an air fryer, bring it to the countertop as air fryers require free space to blow air into the basket.
So give your air fryer at least 3-4 inches of space on all sides for the proper functioning of the appliance.
Can I put my air fryer on top of my fridge?
No, you shouldn’t put your air fryer on top of a refrigerator. Air fryer produces a tremendous amount of heat that can damage the top of the fridge. Second, refrigerator manufacturers recommend not putting something on top of it.
Can you use an air fryer on a granite countertop?
Granite is one of the most durable and heat-resistant countertop materials. It can withstand up to 1,200 degrees. You can use kitchen gadgets such as an air fryer, microwave, instant pot, and slow cooker on top of a granite countertop.
Granite prices may vary depending on the thickness, color, and quality. But the tiles will cost you around $5 – $13 while slabs will cost anything between $50 – $200.
Can you use an air fryer on a Formica countertop?
Formica Countertops are popular these days and can withstand up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit for short periods. You cannot use an air fryer on top of Formica without using a heat-resistant mat or trivet.
Formica is also known as laminated countertops thus it cannot withstand such temperatures. You cannot place a hot pan or pot on top of it for a longer period or it’ll damage the Formica surface easily.
Putting Air fryer on Stainless Steel Countertop
Stainless steel countertops are popular in restaurant kitchens and are not affected by heat. Stainless steel can withstand a lot of heat and abuse.
You can use an air fryer, microwave oven, instant pot, and pressure cookers with a pan and pot easily without using any heat-resistant trivet.
However, stainless steel kitchens require a lot of maintenance and are good for restaurants only. Plus they are costlier than other types of countertops.
Air fryer on Concrete Countertops
Concrete countertops are very heat resistant but avoid placing hot pots or pans on sealed surfaces since the heat can damage or discolor the sealer. They are best for kitchen appliances that get heated around 400 F or more. Plus they are inherently durable and easy to clean and maintain.
Corian Countertops
Corian countertops are heat resistant up to 200 degrees without damaging the surface. Making them suitable for any kitchen appliances such as air fryers, instant pots, and slow cookers.
Corian surfaces are better than laminate but still lack the durability and aesthetics that you would find with stone such as quartz. This is one of the primary reasons Corian offers poor resale value compared to quartz.
Quartz Countertops
Quartz countertops can withstand temperatures up to 150 degrees only. So they cannot withstand the temperatures of air fryers, microwave ovens, pressure cookers & hot pans. It is highly recommended to use a heat-resistant pad to protect your countertop.
Prices for quartz countertops range from about $100 to $200 per square foot for the materials and professional installation. So it’s better to protect your quartz from high temperatures like 400 F or beyond.
As we’ve already discussed a lot about different countertops, now if you’re moved to a new house and don’t know about your kitchen countertop material, or what it is made of then no worries in the next we’ll discuss it.
What to put under the air fryer to protect the countertop?
You can use any heat-proof material under your air fryer to protect the countertop. But that should be flat, good heat resistant, scratch-proof, and provide a non-skid surface to your air fryer.
How do I know if my Countertop is heatproof?
Here is an excellent video of the differences between Granite from other stone surfaces or Marble:
So there it goes to the stone surface part. But how do you tell if it’s a stone or a laminated surface – it is simple.
When you touch the stone surface, it’ll be colder in winter but laminated surfaces are not so hard. Even you can use a stick to try to knock the surface- a laminated surface will make a high pitch sound whereas a stone surface will produce a base sound.
What can I put under the air fryer when working on a non-heat-resistant countertop?
The best method is to use a silicone mat for this purpose. You can buy a large one and place it all over the countertop or you can buy a small one and place it just under the air fryer or similar items. You can check out the large silicone mat as well as a pack of small silicone mats from Amazon.
